Gifts of Life Insurance

Many people take out life insurance policies to provide for loved ones or hedge against other risks and then circumstances change over time and the original reasons for getting the policy are no longer relevant. Rather than let the policy lapse, the gift of a life insurance policy to the David Horowitz Freedom Center is a simple and convenient way to support our mission and provide benefits back to you. You can either give the policy to the Freedom Center, make us the beneficiary and provide us with an annual gift to pay the premium or you can retain ownership of the policy and designate us the beneficiary.

Outright gift of a life insurance policy:

  • You name the David Horowitz Freedom Center as beneficiary and transfer full ownership of the policy to us.
  • You get an immediate income tax deduction based on the value of the policy.
  • You provide the Freedom Center with tax-deductible, annual gifts to pay the policy premiums.
  • We immediately benefit from the proceeds of the policy at your passing, since insurance pay-outs do not need to wait until the estate is settled.

Naming the Freedom Center as beneficiary of a life insurance policy:

  • You name the David Horowitz Freedom Center as beneficiary of your policy.
  • You retain ownership and control of the policy during your lifetime and pay the annual premiums.
  • You can alter the beneficiary designation at any time if your circumstances change.
  • We immediately benefit from the proceeds of the policy at your passing, since insurance pay-outs do not need to wait until the estate is settled.
  • Your estate receives an estate tax deduction equal to the amount of the gift to us.
  • These are the basics of making such a gift to the Freedom Center. Your financial advisor can provide you with more details on these and other options for using a life insurance policy to support our mission.
